Quetzalcoatl’s Nest
When Mexican architect Javier Senosiain saw this cave for the first time he thought that it looked like a mouth of a snake. He checked the cave and it looked like a giant snake coming in and out of the mountain.
One thing led to another and over the years rest of the giant Quetzalcoatl was built.
And that’s how one of the most unique hotels in the world originated. With ten separate apartments, each one with unique art, and surrounding lush gardens it is the perfect place to relax, do some yoga, or meditate.
Quetzalcoatl’s Nest
Quetzalcoatl’s Nest is an architect-created apartment for up to 8 guests, part of a unique sculpture garden and complex that resembles a slithering serpent amongst the caves of Naucalpan de Juárez, north of Mexico City.
Quetzalcoatl’s Nest is a fantastical snake-shaped structure, designed by renowned Mexican architect Javier Senosiain. The structure design takes inspiration from nature and aims to have minimal environmental impact.
Working on the irregular-shaped land, which is filled with caves and vast tracts of oak trees, proved challenging but inspirational for Senosiain, who looked at the natural shape of a cave mouth and saw an animal aspect.
The architect built a magnificent snake head measuring 165 x 20 feet, the gaping mouth of which is formed into the shape of a large cave. The foliage and surrounding nature of the complex remain largely untouched.
The twisting walkways of Quetzalcoatl’s Nest provide some pretty spectacular views of the ravines and canyons.
As of July 2019, Quetzalcoatl’s Nest can be accessed through overnight rental stays. There are events planned for the public throughout 2019, as the park plans to become fully accessible to the public in the coming years.
